Blog Journal #5

I really have never been a social media-type person. When I was a sophomore at Georgia College and State University, I took a middle-eastern studies class where part of out assignment was to download twitter and follow certain profiles. We then had to respond to prompts based upon these prompts. This is really my only experience with the social media aspect of society. I could see twitter being beneficial towards a future career based upon networking and creating connections and relationships to build a career/future with.

Digital divide can cause a number problems for students, especially in today's academic world. Students who are not acclimated to the technological world seem to fall behind in school, seeing as everything has become digitized and computerized. The less-apt students not only fail with the school work, but the ability to access it and the lessons due to the digital divide. In my experience, these skills for being savy with technology can be learned. This is where excellent teachers can change a young student's life by educating them not only on the curriculum, but the technology that is used to access it and complete it.

Certain software tools can be vitally important for both teachers and students. These types of software can make running a classroom, especially a remote one, much easier. Two softwares that I would implement in my classroom would be a canvas-type platform and also honorlock. The canvas-type platform can be used as it is now with college students. This way, students can stay on top of assignments and track their progress. The honorlock software will be used to prevent the cheating aspect of an online class and even take home assignments. These two softwares are the most useful in terms of preserving academic integrity and honesty.
